We have an amazing opportunity for a Bursary Assistant Manager to be based in Bryanston, Johannesburg. Do you think you have what it takes to be our newest Purple Star?
The Bursary Assistant Manager will assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the bursary programme. This role is key in ensuring smooth administration, compliance with policies, and effective support for bursary recipients. The Assistant Manager will help with the operational execution of bursary processes, manage administrative staff, and build strong relationships with both students and partner institutions. Based in Johannesburg, this position will focus on the efficient management of student support, bursary administration, and operational delivery in Gauteng and the surrounding regions.

You Bring:
- 4–5 years of experience in project or programme management.
- Valid driver’s license with driving experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Previous experience in bursary administration or academic support.
- Solid understanding of the higher education environment.
- Proficiency in relevant software applications, including word processing and spreadsheets.

What You’ll Do For The Brand:
Operational Support:
- Oversee and streamline the day-to-day operations of the bursary programme, ensuring efficiency and compliance with policies.
- Monitor and manage the timely execution of bursary-related processes and activities.
- Conduct regular checks on the quality of bursary administration, ensuring accurate record-keeping, documentation, and reporting.
- Assist in managing the execution of bursary-related campaigns, including coordination with marketing and other relevant departments.
- Resolving any operational challenges faced by the team.
- Ensure the efficient processing of payments and roll-out of bursary initiatives such as Star Maker workshops.
- Support the management of the bursary team by guiding operational performance and addressing team challenges when necessary.
- Ensure that all audit elements are in order.
Selection & Administration:
- Assist with the selection process of bursary recipients, ensuring all processes are completed on time and in compliance with company policies.
- Oversee the verification of student documentation and ensure it aligns with bursary eligibility criteria.
- Ensure smooth administrative processes for bursary students, including the storage and management of records and documentation.
- Supervise bursary administrators to ensure the accuracy of records and the completeness of documentation.
- Manage bursary administrators’ performance reviews.
- Manage initial application verification and submission requirements before approval process starts.
Stakeholder Relationship Management:
- Build and maintain operational relationships with bursary recipients, educational institutions, and other relevant stakeholders in the region.
- Represent Bursary department at various platforms where necessary
- Comfortable presenting in front of large groups of people and confident speaker.
Reporting & Data Management:
- Support the regular production of operational reports, ensuring that bursary administration processes and results are documented accurately.
- Use tools like Devman and Excel to generate timely reports and ensure smooth information flow.
- Provide data-driven insights to improve operational efficiency and assist with decision-making.
